Springfield School District Parents:
This too shall pass, but we presently must deal with a situation that has caught us off guard. The prospect of teaching remotely has many of our teachers feeling cautiously optimistic about learning new skills. This is new territory for everybody involved – teachers, students, parents, and administration. We currently face 4 weeks of remote instruction and possibly more. The things within our control that will lead to the greatest student growth are agreeing to work together, communicating respectfully, and understanding that this is new to everyone. Please know that together we will persevere.
Teachers are currently developing individual plans to continue their instruction and will be communicating with students and parents on March 23rd or 24th. It is advised that students and parents check emails frequently beginning March 24th. We understand some households have internet and device limitations, we are working on solutions.
On Tuesday, March 24th, the schools will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students or parents to pick-up textbooks, assignments, and other needed school materials. Please make other arrangements for pick up if you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms. You will need to enter through the front door of each building and then you will be directed to the proper place. Please be aware of “social distancing” and follow the guidance of the staff while in the buildings.
Some teachers, especially in the younger grades, have indicated they will send home paper packets of work. Elementary teachers may also use on-line tools such as I-station and Reading Eggs. Your children will be familiar with these as they use them almost daily. Detailed instructions on how to download and log-in to these sites will be provided. The use of technology will likely increase with the age of students. Teachers will also be available to answer questions daily, and contact information will be included in the teacher communication.
We will do our best to provide lunches to our students during this time. Students/parents may go to the window on the north side of the cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day to pick up “to go” bags that will contain a lunch and a breakfast. This service will begin on Tuesday, March 24th and billed at your current rate. The menu will be provided on the school app as usual.
This is an unprecedented situation and things are constantly changing. Please understand we will do our best to keep updated information available on our website and through emails and text messages. Thank you for your cooperation and support during this time.
