Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:

I want to thank all of you for your patience, understanding and support as we work through this difficult time.  This is something none of us planned or prepared for.  Please know that the staff at Springfield School District is working hard at finding the best possible solution to the many issues that have arisen and may arise in the coming weeks.  Along with your help we will find a way to get through this time.

On Tuesday, March 24th students will come to the school from 10:00 – 2:00 to pick up their home based education packets and any books or materials their teachers feel they might need to complete their assignments.  Elementary students will come in through the main doors by the office. 4th and 5th graders will be directed down the hallway to their classroom where their books and packets will be on their desks.  They will collect those items and then exit the building on the south end.    While in the school please maintain appropriate social distancing of six feet or more, and avoid gathering in groups. Students/Parent should exit the building upon picking up their information.  1st and 2nd graders will pick up their packets in the lobby and continue out the north end of the building, maintaining the same social distancing responsibilities.  PK and kindergarten students will receive their packets at the front door of their respective buildings.  Please follow directions of the staff to allow for the health and safety of everyone.

Jr./Sr. high students will enter the gym from the outside two doors and walk through the gym where they will receive their educational materials. They will then exit the gym and go down the hallway to get any books or materials from their lockers that may be needed, they may also check materials out from the library at this time.  Please collect your materials and exit the building at the east end maintaining social distancing and not congregating in the hallway. School staff will be stationed along the way for directions.

This pickup process will repeat weekly every Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Our Grab & Go meal program will begin on Tuesday, March 24th from 11:00 – 1:00.  There will be a drive-up window on the north side of the cafeteria and a walk-up window on the east side of the cafeteria.  These meals will be provided at no cost to the children and are available to all children 18 and below. The Grab & Go bag will contain a breakfast and a lunch for one student.  Due to the guidelines we are following we will not have adult lunches available for purchase at this time.  If utilizing the drive-up please enter from the north end of the campus by the bus barn.  Please drive safely and watch for students.

Over the next several weeks it is important that students, parents and staff check their emails daily.  This will be a good way to communicate on a consistent basis.  As new information becomes available we want to make sure everyone is receiving it. District information will also be posted on our district app and website.  Individual communication procedures will be shared with you by the classroom teachers.  The home based learning will be in a blended format, with pencil and paper assignments, activities, instructional videos and on-line learning opportunities.  Your teachers will be adjusting these plans as they determine the best methods for their particular classrooms.

In these uncertain times we realize things are changing not only daily but at times hourly. Please be assured that the teachers and administration at Springfield School District are doing everything we can to help our students and parents meet these challenging and unknown obstacles.  We are here for you. By open communication, we can work through all issues that may arise during the process of remote instruction. Please keep yourselves healthy and safe.
