Sophomore, Parker Arbuthnot, received the Human>Athlete award during the Lamar Holiday Basketball Tournament. This is a new award given by CHSAA to a student-athlete in a rural area who exemplifies leadership, courage, service, and respect for human dignity. Congratulations Parker! "Parker Arbuthnot exemplifies leadership, courage, service, and a deep respect for human dignity in countless ways, both in and out of his athletic pursuits. A recent example stands out: during the heavy snowstorm, when most were focused on staying indoors, Parker took it upon himself to clear the track so that he could maintain his training for the upcoming season, even though it was five months away. But Parker didn’t stop there. He recognized that his older neighbors might struggle with the snow, so he made sure to shovel out three of them, ensuring they had access to groceries and could get to medical appointments if necessary. This act of service demonstrated not only his commitment to others' well-being but also his proactive mindset and willingness to go above and beyond in times of need. Beyond this, Parker’s character is consistently evident in his daily life. He is a vocal leader who always stands up for doing the right thing, setting an example for those around him. Whether it’s picking up litter in the halls, making sure teammates feel included, or simply working harder than anyone else, Parker’s actions speak volumes. His leadership extends into his roles as an officer in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a leader of his local youth group, and a key figure in the success of his track, cross country, and basketball teams. Parker’s unwavering dedication to others, his work ethic, and his ability to lead by example make him a role model in every sense of the word. His commitment to service and his consistent efforts to uplift those around him reflect a person who understands the value of human dignity and strives to honor it daily."
