CANCELLED: The Girls' J.V. Tournament scheduled for TODAY has been cancelled due to road conditions and forecasted winter weather.

Springfield will be hosting a Girl's J.V. Tournament on Friday, January 9th. Games are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

Logan Spires signed his letter of intent to continue his athletic and academic career at Concordia University in Nebraska.

In his senior season, Logan led the state in sacks averaging 1.8 sacks per game. He also led the Longhorns with 7.3 tackles per game and had 4 fumble recoveries. His performance snagged him 8-man All-State Honorable Mention Honors as well as Arkansas Valley All-Conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

CHSAA is proud to recognize two outstanding student-athletes for their dedication to their schools and their communities.

This year’s recipients are Grant Mauch of Wiley High School and Dakota Reid of Springfield High School. Grant and Dakota exemplify leadership, courage, service, and respect for human dignity, both on and off the court. This award celebrates the excellence of rural student-athletes whose teams compete in the Holiday Basketball Tournament. The recipients are selected by the CHSAA State Representatives—a group of high school leaders from across the state of Colorado.

Dakota Reid is a remarkable leader whose impact extends across her school, athletics, and community. As student council president, she has helped unite students through meaningful events and county-wide service initiatives. Beyond athletics, she serves as president of her 4-H club, a mentor to younger students, and Miss Baca County, organizing service projects, youth workshops, and community events that uplift and empower others. In every role she holds, Dakota demonstrates empathy, dependability, and a genuine commitment to honoring the dignity of others.

Grant Mauch exemplifies leadership through integrity, service, and respect for others. Whether on the court, in the classroom, or within his school community, Grant leads by example and brings people together in ways that ensure everyone feels valued and supported. He consistently chooses to do what is right and selflessly invests his time and energy into helping others succeed. Grant’s character, kindness, and commitment to honoring the dignity of those around him make him a truly inspiring leader and a deserving recipient of this award.
